Kristen Franzen is an accomplished psychotherapist licensed in multiple states, including Minnesota (LPCC #CC04980), Florida (LMHC #MH22317), and Texas (LPC #97926), certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NCC #1727660), and an Ordained Minister. Under Minnesota Statute 517.08, authorized clinical mental health professionals and ordained clergy legally qualify to administer premarital education.

Do both me and my partner need to pay for the course?
No. The single enrollment fee of $29.97 covers both partners. You only purchase the course once per couple. You can complete the 12 hours together on your own schedule. When finished, Kristen Franzen will issue an official, notarized Educator’s Statement that includes both applicants’ names for your local county registrar.
Is there a waiting period to get married in Minnesota?
No. Minnesota eliminated its 5-day waiting period in 2016. You can apply for your marriage license and get married on the exact same day. However, your marriage license is valid for 6 months after it is issued within the state of Minnesota.
How long does the premarital course take?
Minnesota law strictly requires a minimum of 12 hours of premarital education. Our online course is entirely self-paced, meaning you can log in and out over several days, but you must accumulate 12 hours of coursework before your official Educator’s Statement is issued.
Why is my Educator’s Statement mailed instead of emailed?
Minnesota statute mandates an original, physically signed and notarized statement on official letterhead to qualify for the $75 discount. County registrars will reject digital or printed PDFs. To ensure guaranteed acceptance, Kristen Franzen personally notarizes and mails your physical statement via USPS.
Where do we go to get our marriage license?
In Minnesota, marriage licenses are issued by your local county registrar, recorder, or government service center (such as the Hennepin County Government Center). Both partners must apply in person with valid photo IDs, social security numbers, and your original notarized Educator’s Statement. You can also start the application process online via the Minnesota Official Marriage System (MOMS).
