California Marriage License FAQs

Does California offer a discount for taking a premarital course?

Unlike some states (such as Texas or Florida), the California Family Code does not offer a state-mandated fee reduction for premarital education. However, the $29.97 investment in this course is designed to prevent communication breakdowns and future conflicts, making it a priceless investment in your lifelong partnership.

Is there a waiting period to get married in California?

No. California has no waiting period and no blood test requirement. You can apply for your marriage license at the County Clerk-Recorder's office and legally marry on the exact same day. The license remains valid for 90 days after issuance.

What is a Confidential Marriage License?

California uniquely offers two types of marriage licenses: Public and Confidential. If you and your partner are currently living together as spouses, you can apply for a Confidential Marriage License. This means your marriage record is sealed and not available to the public. You do not need witnesses at your ceremony for a confidential license.

Why should we take this course?

Many churches, pastors, and independent officiants require couples to undergo professional counseling before they will agree to perform the ceremony. Our course fulfills these requirements while giving you evidence-based tools to navigate finances, intimacy, and conflict resolution.
