Florida Parenting Class FAQs

Who exactly needs to take this course?

Under Florida Statute 61.21, completing a DCF-approved Parent Education and Family Stabilization Course is mandatory for all parents with minor children getting a divorce. It is also required for parents involved in a paternity action regarding parental responsibility and time-sharing.

What happens if I miss the 45-day deadline?

Florida law typically requires the petitioner to complete the class within 45 days of filing, and the respondent within 45 days of being served. If you fail to complete the course, the judge can hold you in contempt of court, deny or restrict your time-sharing with your children, or delay granting the final judgment of dissolution.

Do my ex-spouse and I have to take the class together?

No. Florida courts recognize that this is often a high-conflict time. Each parent must register for and complete the course individually. You do not need to use the same provider, and you certainly do not need to take it in the same room.

Is there a final exam I have to pass?

Yes, the State of Florida requires all approved online providers to administer a final test, and you must score at least a 70% to receive your certificate. However, our course is a no-fail system. You have unlimited attempts to pass the final quiz at no extra charge.

Will the court accept a digital/printed PDF certificate?

Yes. Unlike some states that require mailed, notarized originals, Florida circuit courts fully accept digital PDF certificates generated by DCF-approved providers. You can easily upload your downloaded Cadenza Counseling certificate directly into the Florida Courts e-Filing Portal.
