Georgia Marriage License FAQs

Is there a waiting period to get married in Georgia?

No. For adults 18 and older, Georgia has no waiting period. You can apply for your marriage license at the Probate Court and get married on the exact same day.

How long does the premarital course take?

Georgia law strictly requires a minimum of 6 hours of premarital education. Our online course is self-paced, meaning you can log in and out over several days, but you must accumulate 6 hours of coursework before your official state certification form is generated.

Why is my certificate mailed instead of emailed?

Georgia Probate Courts mandate that you present an original, physically signed state form to claim your $35 application fee waiver. They will reject printed PDFs. To protect you from being turned away, Kristen Franzen personally signs, notarizes, and mails your original certificate via USPS.

Where do we go to get our marriage license?

In Georgia, marriage licenses are issued by the Probate Court in each of the 159 counties (not the County Clerk). Both you and your partner must apply together in person, bringing valid photo IDs and your original, notarized premarital course certificate.

Are all four course variations accepted by the state?

Yes! Whether you choose the Standard, Faith-Friendly, Inclusive, or Spanish track, your 6-hour curriculum is fully compliant with O.C.G.A. § 19-3-30.1 and guarantees your $35 fee waiver.
